“Action” deals with assurance of objectives and ambitions in policies and regulations (Policy assurance), eventually leading to implementation. Policy assurance aims at the development of adaptation policies and regulations. Implementation is about real life development of adaptation.
There is no standard recipe for action. Adaptation can be incorporated into different sectoral policies (mainstreaming), or there can be a separate adaptation policy or programme in place. Also, implementation takes on different forms. Adaptation can become part of (re)development projects for housing or commercial development, it can be integrated into various developments, or government authorities can actively implement measures, such as the creation of public parks and water management projects. What works best depends on numerous factors. This is why this section highlights a variety of implementation examples.
