Policy and programmes
The Dutch government is promoting and supporting climate adaptation in a variety of ways. Two documents constitute an important basis in this respect: the National Climate Adaptation Strategy (NAS, 2016) (pdf, 14 MB) and the Delta Plan on Spatial Adaptation (Delta Plan SA, 2018) (pdf, 20 MB).
National Climate Adaptation Strategy
The NAS maps out all the climate effects, liaises between the parties involved, and promotes a collective approach. The NAS implementation programme covers the years of 2018 and 2019. Even before the NAS implementation programme was published, many climate adaptation efforts had been initiated. More information is provided in the NAS News Flash and on the “News & Agenda” page.
Delta Plan on Spatial Adaptation
The Delta Plan on Spatial Adaptation is a collective plan drawn up by municipalities, district water boards, provinces, and the national government. It expedites and intensifies the combat of waterlogging, heat stress, drought, and the impact of urban flooding. The Delta Plan is structured on the basis of seven ambitions. Read the special edition of Delta News to find out more about its reasons and background.
