In this four-day course, the focus is on the stress test and the selection of climate adaptation measures. The following topics are addressed: spatial adaptation; dealing with rainwater; the construction, management, and monitoring of rainwater facilities; and involving residents in climate adaptation measures. Climate-proof planning, i.e., a proper balance between water, drought, and heat on the one hand, and spatial planning on the other is essential to the present and future liveability and vitality of areas. The impact of progressive urbanisation on the liveability and vitality of cities and villages is just as strong as the influence of changes in the climate. All in all, municipalities are thus faced with a tough challenge in terms of the climate-proof and liveable planning of cities and villages. The key theme in this two-day course is how to ensure, from the launch up to the implementation of a spatial plan, that climate aspects are addressed in an opportunity-oriented manner. Climate scenarios: are we climate proof?

A two-day course on how climate scenarios can help to find solutions to drought, heat, and waterlogging. The course will discuss extreme phenomena such as prolonged periods of drought and torrential rain. On the basis of climate scenarios of the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute – KNMI – the climate resilience of proposed local measures will be analysed. Furthermore, the course will focus ample attention on individual issues, among which the results of stress tests and how climate scenarios can be factored in.

Integrated water management

Integrated water management programme involving a 120-hour study load, comprising three modules: water quantity, water quality, and current water management. In addition to the Dutch hydrology system, the programme addresses the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the water system. In-depth insight is provided into changes in society, legislation, and policy, such as the Delta Plan on Spatial Adaptation. Three-day course on the weather and weather forecasts in relation to water management. A proper interpretation of weather forecasts enables the calculation of water levels, for example, by reference to models. This course provides in-depth insight into: day-to-day management, waterlogging, dehydration, policy, and safety. The focus is on practical cases involving weather data and water level management. The course involves a field trip to a weather station. Upon completion, the participants will be better prepared for the climate of the future and capable of factoring in weather aspects in day-to-day water management.
