Serious Gaming: Climate Game

The climate is changing. Keeping urban areas in the Dutch Delta safe and liveable in the long run requires measures.

Students who use the serious gaming tool enter the virtual project environment, where they take on the roles of municipality, district water board, real estate developer, and student housing.

The game starts with an exploration of the area, the individual taskings, and the measures. Subsequently, the players need to develop a climate-adaptive approach for their neighbourhood. This confronts them with a complexity similar to that of actual practice.

In the game, the players implement measures relating to water, spatial planning, and liveability. In addition, however, it is imperative that they consult and negotiate with one another in order to reach agreement on conflicting interests.
